Week 8ITD 645 was class that introduced me to an array of new tools. This class allowed me to communicate through asynchronous and synchronous applications. The new applications and programs that I utilized in this class I intend to use in my class this fall and to introduce to my fellow teachers. I was able to develop a lesson plan that can be implemented into that utilizes a variety of applications. This class has provided me with many new tools to put in my education toolbox.
Weebly- This is a great tool to use that allows a teacher to create a classroom blog or website. This platform has allowed me to create a weekly journal of my learning experience. It also allowed me to create a course site so I could keep my students and their parent’s up to date with things that are going on in the classroom. I feel this tool will be very useful for my students who have a high rate of absenteeism. By creating a class website my students can stay up to date and review any material they may have missed. Google Docs-Google Docs is a form of Micro-Soft word that allows students to collaborate online. This application can be used in conjunction with Google Classroom and allows students to connect to the application using their assigned google accounts. Google Docs allows teachers and students to share assignments so that digital collaboration can occur. I enjoyed creating the story in google docs and allowing my group members to add pictures. This is an idea that I am going to borrow for my own classroom. I like this idea and feel that this can help me not only teach the tool but I can also teach students about copyright when searching for photos on the internet. For all of the group activities we completed in class, each group member had a google account and information was shared freely through google drive. I created a group shared folder and I placed needed information in the folder. I also created editable folders and documents so that each member of the group knew what the assignment expectations were. Google Slides- This application is also one that can be found in the Google suites, it is a free application and it is a simplified version of Google PowerPoint. This application is one that allowed me to create a PowerPoint so that it could be shared and edited by my classmates. This program can easily convert any PowerPoint presentation into google slides. By utilizing google slides it allows you place your presentation in your google drive and it gives you the freedom to share your document with others as well edit a document. When a document is shared and editable it allows all of the users to see the changes in real time. This is great when you are working on presentations and not all parties are in the same location. Google Forms to create a Survey- This class also required that all participants create a survey and that they complete the survey of their group members. Google Forms provides a quick way to generate an online survey, the responses are collected in an online spreadsheet, and readily available. Surveys can be shared with recipients through email invites or by the sharing of the URL. Once the survey is received by the recipients the questions can be accessed through almost any web browser - including mobile smartphone and tablet browsers. The survey sender can then view each response in a single row of a spreadsheet, with each question shown in a column. The great thing about this application and all of the google applications discussed thus far is they are all free and all you need is a google account to access them. Podcast-This was a new adventure for me, I am a visual learner. Listening to things and utilizing the auditory process only has never appealed to me. I do not think that I had ever listened to a podcast before I had to complete this project. I did learn to use Audacity and I learned to convert the file into an audio file. I was very apprehensive with this assignment but in the end I feel that it turned out well. I do see how podcasts could be beneficial especially to auditory learners, but I am still unsure how I may utilized it in my classroom. Digital Video- Now this is an area that gives me great anxiety. I am not one that does well with digital media. I can create great PowerPoints with meaningful transitions and animation and I can even add music as well. But to create a video this makes me cringe. I feel that on this video I utilized my skills and combined my PowerPoint skill with the minimal skill I have in video production. I do feel that by using the correct tools that video editing is much easier. I used Adobe Premier Pro to complete my video project. This application made the process easier. I was able to lay a voice track in with my video clip and PowerPoint slides. I feel that by using this application my video was easier to produce. Edupuzzle-This tool I absolutely “LOVE”. I am so thankful that I was introduced to this tool. I use a lot of videos in my class and I feel that the one thing they are missing is student interaction. I can always show a video but I am never quite sure if “ALL” of my students comprehend. By incorporating Edupuzzle I can now check for understanding when the students watch a video. This is a great tool and I think it will help out tremendously in my classroom. Quizzizz- Quizizz is a great way to accomplish student-paced assessments that are fun and engaging for students. This tool is completely free, there are no paid features teachers can use everything for free. There are also no restrictions on the number of quizzes you can create conduct or play. Quizizz can be played on any device with any browser. This includes PCs, laptops, tablets, smartphones and almost any device that runs on iOS/Mac, Android, Windows or Linux operating systems. You can use any modern browser, including Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Internet Explorer 11+. This tool can only be used if every child has a device that is the only drawback that I see to this tool. Fortunately my classroom is 1:1 so my students will be using this tool this school year. Rubric- This is a great tool that allows you to create a class rubric. This tool was easy to use and allowed the user to edit the rubric easily. This is another tool that I intend to share with my fellow teachers. ThingLink- Is a tool that allows teachers and or students to create image interaction technology. Teachers and students can easily create interactive infographics, maps, drawings, and engaging 360 documentaries in a classroom setting, at home, or on field trips. I had a hard time using this tool for the topic that I incorporated into my lesson but I feel that this tool could be incorporated into my class. I think I could allow my students to create an info graphic on a specific topic and utilize this tool to create it. Scoopit- This platform allows me the teacher to post topic-related site links, articles, or other resources to with my students. This platform is set up similar to a social media page and is easy to use. This application does need to be monitored closely because not all of the sites that Scoop-it pulls from is regulated. Padlet- Is a digital bulletin board. This program is a great place for gathering ideas, sharing them and modifying. It works similarly to a living, breathing, digital sticky notes, users can add links, YouTube videos, files and images to notes on Padlet. Illustrate your strong and weak points I feel that as a technology teacher I have a lot of strong points. I understand google suites and I feel that I can assist classmates/group members who may be struggling. I do not claim to have all of the answers but I am willing to help. This to me is a strong asset that I feel is one of my strengths. As for weaknesses, I feel can is in the area of video production. I am not confident with my skills in this area and I feel I need to work on this. Integrating technology applications into your classroom? I feel that all of the tools that I have been exposed to in this class can be used in some form during my class. I teach technology and I feel that as a technology teacher I should expose my students to all of the tools in my educational toolbox. I may not use all of the tools to teach with but I may teach a few of the tools to my students so they be exposed to new digital tools. I have illustrated throughout my reflection on each tool how I can see it used in my classroom. I intend to use Scoop-it, Edupuzzle, Quizzizz, Rubric, as well as the Google Suites applications. These tools are easy fits into my curriculum and can add interaction to my class. I intend to use Thinglink but I will allow my students to illustrate a concept with it. I feel this tool will give them a new presentation skill that they can use in the future. What are your future learning goals? I intend to continue to learn new digital tools to use in the classroom with my students. I would like to become more familiar with video production so that I can feel at ease when asked to create a movie. I have recently purchased a MacBook. I am a PC girl and I feel that I also need to be as confident on a Mac as I am on a PC. I also intend to look for new digital tools that can make my class more interactive and engaging.
